The ICE U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) has long served as a consistent and leading benchmark for the value of the dollar against a basket of foreign currencies since it was devised in the mid-1970s and launched as an official index in 1985. It is a geometrically-averaged calculation of six currencies trade-weighted against the U.S. dollar.
